The 27th annual Swisher Sweets / Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year award luncheon took place Tuesday in Moultrie, Georgia. In the previous 26 years, many of agriculture’s top business leaders, innovators, environmentalists, pioneers, family men, problem solvers and leaders have received national recognition. This year’s winner was David Wildy from Arkansas. Ten states are involved in this competition each year, including representatives from Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
Wendell Gibbs of Ranburne, Alabama is the Alabama Farmer of the Year.
Paul DiMare of Coral Gables, the Florida Farmer of the Year, was unable to attend the luncheon due to health issues, but I talked with his son Tony who was there to represent him.
John McCormick of Sylvania, Georgia is the Georgia Farmer of the Year.
