Back in early March of this year, it was announced that efforts to improve food safety inspections of imported catfish ended on a good note with the U.S. Department of Agriculture officially assuming inspection responsibilities. But then two weeks ago, it was announced that the U.S. Senate voted to switch catfish inspections from USDA back to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That was a move that concerned many in the industry, and it also concerns Alabama Congressman Bradley Byrne, who told me the issue is now coming over to the House.
