When USDA released their cattle inventory numbers at the end of January, we learned that the number of all cattle and calves in the U.S. on January 1, 2016 was at 92.0 million head, up 3 percent from the 89.1 million head on January 1 last year. So good news to see that herds are re-building across the country but unfortunately, prices are not where they were a few months ago. The new Chief Executive Officer of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Kendal Frazier, knows while there are issues in the industry, there are still a lot of bright opportunities.
