Growers gathered throughout Florida today to hear Southeast AgNet’s live broadcast of the 2015-16 USDA Citrus Crop Forecast. Two events were held this year, one by the Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association (PRVCGA) and the other by Florida Citrus Mutual. The PRVCGA event was held in Zolfo Springs at Pioneer Park. We spoke with a few local growers after the broadcast to get their opinions on this year’s forecast.
The first grower was Ken Sanders of Wauchula. Sanders is one of the original founders of the PRVCGA and despite his disappointment with this year’s forecast, he’s still optimistic about the future of Florida citrus.
The second grower we spoke with was Roger Conley with Conley Grove Service, also from Wauchula.
Citrus Industry magazine’s Tacy Callies caught up with grower Jonathan Brown of Bethel Farms at the event and was able to get his reaction to the numbers and outlook for the season.Hear the crop forecast released by USDA and check out more coverage of the crop forecast here.
Hear other coverage from around the state by the AgNet Media team.
The next monthly citrus crop forecast will be Tuesday, November 10, 2015 and will be carried “LIVE” here on southeastagnet.com.
