Commissioner Putnam on Oriental Fruit Fly Infestation

20150921_145027-1Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam held a press conference today to address the recent infestation of the Oriental fruit fly in Miami-Dade County. Commissioner Putnam declared a state of agricultural emergency last week due to the outbreak of the flies. The Oriental fruit fly is considered one of the most serious of the world’s fruit fly pests due to its potential economic harm. It attacks more than 430 different fruits, vegetables and nuts. Commissioner Putnam took time after the conference to speak with us about the concerns of agricultural producers across the state.
