Cotton Planting Behind Schedule

cotton-rowsWhile this past week has seen good planting progress for most crops, cotton is an exception. Here in the Southeast, cotton planting is actual about even with last year at this time but overall, Gary Crawford reports it’s one of the few crops that is behind schedule for both planting and emergence.

Cotton planted in Alabama is 63% complete. That compares to 62% last year at this time but both are behind the 77% 5-year average. After a slow start in Georgia, cotton planting has progressed and is basically back to normal as 65% of the crop has been planted. That compares to 63% at this time last year and 66% is the 5-year average.
