Commissioner Adam H. Putnam’s Statement on Passage of Bill to Strengthen Florida’s Horse Industry

FDACSTallahassee, Fla.—Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 226, sponsored by Senator Jack Latvala.

“Florida’s horse industry has a $5.1 billion economic impact in our state, and I thank the Senate for passing legislation that will enhance the integrity of the industry,” stated Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam. “I also thank Senate President Andy Gardiner, Speaker Steve Crisafulli, Senator Jack Latvala, Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen, and Rep. Charlie Stone for supporting this key legislation.”

This legislation that will strengthen the integrity of Florida’s horse industry by prohibiting the use of certain medications and substances in horses, as well as increasing penalties for those who violate the law.
