Legislative Support Needed in Florida

Randall Weiseman Cattle, Florida, General, Industry News Release, Livestock

Here’s a message from the Florida Cattlemen’s Association:

The Senate and House Education Appropriations Sub-Committees released their proposed budgets last week. Despite the increase in funding for state universities, the proposed budget fell short of some of the UF/IFAS funding requests. There are a number of funding items that will need to be resolved during the next five to six weeks but the most important item would be our request for a Workload Funding increase. This is a formula that determines the amount of funds needed to meet increased demand of IFAS research and extension activities.

The Cattle Research Center Safety Issues in Marianna (Beef Unit cowpens) are fully funded in the House but not in the Senate.

The next step in the process will be for the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to vote on the proposed budget. The House Appropriations Committee will vote on the proposed budget on Wednesday and the Senate will vote on Thursday.

Please contact members of the Appropriations Committees and the legislator in your district and ask them to support these two important issues.
