FROM THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA:

Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet agreed on Tuesday to spend $2.2 million for 599 acres near the Georgia line to help protect freshwater springs around the Suwannee River. The land within the spring shed for Anderson Spring, owned by the Damascus Peanut Company, adds to the state ownership of the Ellaville Twin Rivers State Forest in Madison County.

“This purchase keeps a key piece of land in state ownership and furthers the department’s mission of land purchases that benefit springs,” said Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Herschel Vinyard.
