WASHINGTON, D.C.—Nov. 14, 2012—National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) President Gene Schmidt issued the following statement regarding NRCS Chief Dave White’s announcement that he’ll be stepping down next month:

“Chief White is a tremendous advocate for natural resource conservation and he will be missed by the entire conservation district community. He understands the issues, truly cares about the mission, and knows what it takes to get locally-led conservation done on the ground.

“Through a variety of efforts, including: guidance to increase regulatory certainty; soil health awareness outreach; drought response; and the Working Lands for Wildlife initiative—just to name a few—Chief White has proven to be a stalwart representative for conservation nationwide. On behalf of the entire conservation district community, I want to thank the Chief for his hard work, passion, and dedication, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

“As Chief White departs, we look forward to continuing to work closely with Jason Weller as he takes on his new role of Acting Chief. Weller has demonstrated a strong, working knowledge of D.C. as well as the locally-led conservation process, and we are fully confident in his ability to step up to the plate and continue the mission.”
