Gov. Crist this past weekend vetoed a line item in the state budget that would have provided $1 million for crucial citrus research. Earlier, the governor’s veto of an agriculture bill quashed plans for the Citrus Research and Development Foundation to collect more grower taxes for research. Florida Citrus Mutual CEO Mike Sparks addresses the latest veto in the first report.
In the second report, Sparks says agriculture groups are “scrambling” to make up the research funding shortfalls and discusses possible solutions, including an override of the vetoes.
Florida Citrus Mutual also put out a news release about its discontent with the Governor’s actions. CLICK HERE (word doc) to read or print it.
