EPA Numeric Nutrient Standards – Let The Public Hearings Begin

Today starts a three day whirlwind tour by Environmental Protection Agency officials out to hear what Florida stakeholders have to say about new numeric nutrient water standards. These EPA proposals only affect the state of Florida, although opponents say the issue could appear in other states if EPA is successful in singling out Florida this time. Southeast AgNet’s coverage of this EPA numeric nutrient water standards issue began early on, a year ago, and many stories about it are archived in this website. The following hearing schedule update was received this week from EPA:
As previously announced, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold hearings on February 16 in Tallahassee, February 17 in Orlando, and February 18 in West Palm Beach, on the proposed rulemaking for water quality standards for the State of Florida’s lakes and flowing waters. To accommodate growing public interest, EPA has expanded the times for those hearings, and was able to move the Tallahassee hearings to a larger space. Below are the current times and locations for each date.

Even with these changes, the afternoon sessions may be at capacity. Those concerned about seating or long waits should consider attending an earlier or later session. For additional information go to: http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/standards/rules/florida/
