The Georgia Cattlemen’s Association sent out the following release concerning the death of the grandfather of GCA’s Executive Vice President Jim Collins:

Obituary for James S. Collins, Jr.:
Memorial Service for James S. Collins, Jr., 88, of Cusseta is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel in Opelika, AL. Dr. Tim Thompson is officiating. A private graveside service will be held Saturday at 9:30a.m. in Cusseta Community Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 6-8p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Mr. Collins was born January 10, 1921 in Montgomery, and died February 10, 2009 at Oak Park Retirement Center in Auburn. He moved to Cusseta in 1944, and had been in the cattle business all of his life. He was President of Alabama Angus Association. He was a member of Opelika First United Methodist Church, Farmers Federation, Cattlemen’s Association and had held offices in each of them.
Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his brother, Jack W. Collins of Fairhope, AL.
He is survived by his wife, Era Claire Collins of Cusseta; daughter, Susan Collins Taylor of Oneida, TN; son, Jimmy S. (Mary H.) Collins of Cusseta; two sisters, Ida Bess Robertson and Louise H. Collins both of Lanett; five grandchildren, Judy (Bert) Allen, Jim (Jennifer) Collins, Matt Collins, Christy Byrd, Rob (Tabatha)Taylor; and six great grandchildren.
