Florida Citrus Mutual Calls Members to Farm Bill Action Today

Gary Cooper Citrus, Florida

Dear Citrus Mutual Members and Friends:
It’s time to mobilize! The U.S. House of Representatives will vote today on the Farm Bill. For the first time this bill provides a significant investment in fruit and vegetables. The bill authorizes almost $1.5 billion in mandatory spending for programs that benefit fruit and vegetable growers.

Citrus greening, a disease that has the potential to devastate our industry, is spreading throughout Florida. As a result, the number one funding priority for Florida citrus is pest and disease research. The current Farm Bill agreement addresses the need for investment in research.

Contact your Representative ASAP by phone or e-mail www.house.gov Enter your zip code in the box in the upper left hand corner to find contact info for your Representative.

Tell them by phone or e-mail that as a member of the Florida citrus industry you urge them to vote “YES” today on this Farm Bill. I can’t emphasize how important this process is in a close vote.

Please do so immediately as the House is expected to vote in the next few hours. If you have any questions contact Mutual at (863) 682-1111.
Thanks for your time,
Mike Sparks, CEO
