Former Southeast Agnet reporter Russ Ragan was killed in a private plane crash Thursday just south of the Alabama line near Campbellton, FL. Ragan followed in the footsteps of his father, well-known farm broadcaster Gene Ragan. Russ was farm director for Southeast Agnet affiliate WTVY-FM and had served as a broadcaster on this network for over six years until 2003. The 7-year-old grandson of a friend was also on board the plane when it crashed and was airlifted to a hospital in Panama City. More details on the story are available from DothanFirst.com and the Houston Newspaper.

Southeast Agnet President Gary Cooper said, “Russ and the entire Ragan family are great people, and we enjoyed having Russ as part of our network team for several years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Russ’s father Gene and the Ragan family, and to affiliate WTVY-FM where both Gene and Russ are so well regarded for their farm news reports over the decades.”
