During a USDA trade mission this week, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman announced the U.S. government has reached an agreement with the government of Peru to remove barriers for U.S. beef exports to that country which have remained in effect since 2003. The agreement reached reflects the U.S.’ negligible risk classification for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) is one of the agricultural organizations represented on the USDA trade mission to Peru and Chile. Joe Schuele has more on that story.
