AL Cotton Gin Concerns
Cotton acreage is declining in Alabama which could have a detrimental effect on the gins in the state, according to Hassey Brooks with the state department of agriculture. Hassey Brooks is the environmental biologist with the state department of agriculture who works with Commissioner Sparks on a variety of issues that impact Alabama’s producers and consumers.
Alabama Farmers Federation Update
At last week’s Monsanto/Delta and Pine Land Technology Showcase, Southeast Agnet’s Randall Weiseman spoke with Buddy Adamson, director of the Alabama Cotton Producers, a division of the Alabama Farmers Federation. Adamson reminds growers that the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 36th Annual Commodity Producers Conference will be held Thursday through Saturday night this week in Birmingham.
Alabama Forestry Field Days in October
USDA-NRCS State Forester Tim Albritton is encouraging landowners to attend regional forestry events and field days coming up in October. The forestry field days are scheduled for October 1 in Conecuh county, October 3 in Franklin/Colbert counties, October 16 in Covington County and October 18 in Clay County. Alabama cattle producers last week approved the state 50-cent beef checkoff program for another 5 years, which pleases the President of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Orland Britnell. And Lana Slaten, a past president of the Alabama Cattlewomen and current Vice President of the American National Cattlewomen, said the state checkoff is very important to the industry.
