The U.S. Meat Export Federation is highlighting the gains of American beef in Columbia, especially after HPAI detections in the U.S. According to USMEF, US Beef exports to Columbia rose 23% in volume and 77% in value in 2025 and Homero Recio, a Latin America representative for USMEF explains.

Recio said, “We did suffer quite a hit because of avian influenza and the Colombian government shutting down exports, and we had some pretty good momentum going at the time, and then so with the market closing, it created an avenue for another competitor, the Canadians, to come in and fill the market that we were supplying. Once we were able to get back into the market, we started to tear into the Canadian share, and we’ve ultimately regained our share, and what drove that is our ability to work with the trade and work with them closely to educate the weight staff on what those differences were and how and why they should be promoting American beef.”
