House Committee on Agriculture Chairman, G.T. Thompson from Pennsylvania, released a statement this week that said a new farm bill is long overdue and the Farm Food National Security Act of 2026 is being put together.

He said it’s an important step forward for providing not only certainty to our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities, but we made historical agricultural investments last summer in the working families tax cuts. That was on H.R. 1, that great big beautiful bill. And there are many key parts of that policy that were not complete.

With that, he said in mind, the House Committee on Agriculture will begin marking up a new farm bill on February the 23rd. He said the bill provides modern policies for modern challenges and is shaped for years of listening after listening to the needs of farmers, ranchers, and rural America. The farm bill affects our entire country, to colleagues in Congress, making them work together to get this critical legislation across the finish line.
