The Georgia General Assembly continues it’s work in Atlanta and we caught up with Will Bentley with the Georgia Agribusiness Council to get an update on their progress through the session.
Bentley said, “We continue to focus on passing the amended budget right now. The Senate just voted to pass their version of FY26 amended budget, looking at the changes that have been made right now.”
On the funding elements that would impact agriculture, Bentley said, “There were some positive things for agriculture, there was some money in there for a leadership program with AGL, the University of Georgia, that we’re proud to see in there, then also some funds moving through the Department of Agriculture for projects around the state that were positive as well. Now the Senate will return that back to the House. The House has disagreed with their budget, so they’re headed to a conference committee as expected.”
“So that was kind of the big fight this week. They continue to work on both the House and the Senate, looking at whether we’re going to have decreases in income taxes or decreases in property taxes, or as a bill that was released late in the week says, maybe we’ll just decrease both of them. So that’s something to keep an eye on,” said Bentley,
