Most growers, shellers, brokers, and manufacturers involved in the U.S. peanut industry are members of the American Peanut Council (APC), a trade organization based in Alexandria, Virginia. This week, the council announced a major reorganization initiative under the leadership of its new president and CEO, Luke Blastein.

According to the council, the reorganization is designed to strengthen alignment with the American Peanut Council’s mission and expand its ability to support the peanut industry through both domestic and international programs. APC plays a central role in managing and promoting U.S. peanut exports overseas, making organizational effectiveness critical to the industry’s long-term success.

Blastein said the changes are intended to position the organization for growth while better serving its stakeholders. He explained that the reorganization is meant to “better serve our partners and pursue new opportunities for U.S. peanuts.” As global demand evolves and competition intensifies, APC leadership believes a more coordinated structure will allow the organization to respond more effectively.

Looking ahead, Blastein emphasized that the updated structure is designed to expand APC’s reach and impact. He said, “as we look forward and look ahead, the structure will allow us to do more, explore new ideas, new export markets, while containing to deliver exceptional value for the peanut industry wherever it is, home or abroad.” The focus remains on supporting the full supply chain, from growers to manufacturers, while strengthening the global presence of U.S. peanuts.

Under the new organizational framework, the American Peanut Council plans to increase resources and coordination across all major program areas. These include export market development, sustainability initiatives, and research efforts that support production efficiency, quality, and long-term market access. By improving collaboration across these areas, APC aims to create more consistent messaging and stronger outcomes for the industry.

The reorganization also reflects broader changes within global agricultural trade, where sustainability, traceability, and market diversification are becoming increasingly important. APC leadership believes the updated structure will better position the organization to address these priorities while continuing to deliver value to its members.

As the American Peanut Council moves forward with its reorganization, industry members will be watching closely to see how the changes translate into expanded opportunities, stronger export performance, and enhanced support for the U.S. peanut industry at home and abroad.
