Ag Coalition Urges President Trump to Support Farmers Through Full Farm Bill and Market Expansion

A broad coalition of agriculture groups has united to send a powerful message to President Trump, expressing urgent economic concerns and requesting additional support for American farmers. In a letter delivered last week, the coalition acknowledged the positive steps of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, but emphasized the pressing need for a full five-year Farm Bill to stabilize the agricultural economy.

In the letter, the ag groups applaud the administration for the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and its inclusion of many of the farm bill provisions. However, they highlight the fact that many of the provisions that would support farmers won’t go into effect until October 2026 and they requested that the administration pursue the passage of a full five-year Farm Bill to address items not included in the One Big Beautiful Bill.

The letter detailed rising financial pressures for producers, noting that “USDA’s per-farm production expenses are up almost 40% since 2020.” Even more alarming, the coalition cited a “56% increase in Chapter 12 bankruptcy filings from the 12-month period ending in June of 2024.”

Market expansion was another top priority mentioned. The coalition pressed for renewed efforts to grow both domestic and international markets for U.S. agricultural products, noting the long-term impact such growth would have on farm profitability and sustainability.

The coalition also praised current USDA leadership, saying:

“Rollins is a strong advocate for our industry. She has seen firsthand the challenges of rural America in her travels throughout the country. The Secretary understands the unique risks and market pressures farmers are enduring, and we have been encouraged to learn that she is considering additional ways to assist producers.”

Notable signatories of the letter include the Alabama Farmers Federation, Georgia Cotton Commission, Florida Farm Bureau Federation, and dozens of other state and commodity groups.

As costs rise and uncertainty continues, this unified call reflects the urgency felt across America’s farm belt for timely action and sustained support.
