USDA Trade Mission Aims to Strengthen Latin American Partnerships

Michelle Bekkering, Deputy Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), led a high-level agribusiness trade mission to the Dominican Republic this week. The goal: expand market access and boost exports of American agricultural products throughout Latin America.
The U.S. delegation includes 47 agribusinesses and trade organizations, alongside representatives from the departments of agriculture of three U.S. states. This collaborative effort reflects the USDA’s commitment to supporting economic growth in rural America through international market expansion.
Growing Demand for U.S. Agricultural Products
“This trade mission will connect U.S. exporters with key buyers tapping into Latin America’s growing demand for high-quality American agricultural products, supporting rural prosperity, and keeping American agriculture globally competitive,” said Bekkering.
With Latin America’s increasing appetite for premium food and agricultural products, the Dominican Republic serves as a strategic gateway for American producers looking to strengthen their presence in the region.
Connecting Producers with Buyers
The trade mission provides opportunities for U.S. participants to engage in business-to-business meetings, network with potential buyers, and explore partnerships that can lead to long-term trade relationships. Such missions are a key part of USDA’s broader strategy to bolster American agriculture through robust international engagement.
