The cattle futures market is experiencing turbulence due to daily swings in the financial markets according to CattleFax. Kevin Good, Vice President of Industry Relations for CattleFax, said “With the potential for on again, off again tariffs for the foreseeable future look for elevated volatility to continue in both the financial markets and the cattle futures. That said the fundamentals of the market remain solid.” He also explained that the impact on the futures market is exerting downward pressure in the cash market. The tighter cattle supplies will also continue, according to Good, which provides strong leverage for the cattle producer. He also notes that beef demand has been great but will need to be watched closely due to “economic deterioration which would limit the potential of the current cattle cycle.” Beef exports are also lower according to World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair Mark Jekanowski.
