The USDA released their March Cattle on Feed Report, which shows the number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S. for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head was 11.6 million head on March 1, 2025, two percent below March 1, 2024.
The report also notes placements in feedlots during February totaled 1.55 million head, 18 percent below 2024. Rod Bain has more information on how that number factors into this latest report.
Marketing’s of fed cattle in the new report was 1.63 million head in February, which is 9 percent below 2024.
