(DOTHAN, AL/March 19, 2025) — March is National Peanut Month, a time when the Alabama Peanut Producers Association celebrates our favorite food – the peanut – the official state legume of Alabama!
Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate officially proclaimed March as National Peanut Month in Alabama on March 18, encouraging the people of Alabama to enjoy peanuts, not just in March but every day of the year.
March 18 was also Peanut Day at the Alabama State House. Peanut farmers and industry members distributed chocolate covered peanuts to every Alabama legislator to thank them for their support of the Alabama peanut industry, which contributes $238 million annually to the state’s economy.
More than 900 farm families grow peanuts on 190,000 acres in 34 counties across the state and produces over 500 million pounds of peanuts annually.
