Cotton Setting Bolls; Peanut Condition Drops

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released its weekly crop progress reports Monday. USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey has the latest on the cotton crop. 

And Rippey has the latest on the peanut crop. 

According to the USDA National Agricultural Statics Service (NASS), this is how the cotton and peanut crops were progressing across the Southeast as of this past Sunday: 

In Alabama, cotton setting bolls is 90 percent, which compares to 94 percent this time last year, with the 5-year average being 96 percent. Bolls opening is 20 percent, which compares to 13 percent this time last year, with the 5-year average is 16 percent. Peanut conditions are at 7 percent excellent, 61 percent good, 29 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor. 

In Florida, cotton setting bolls is 95 percent, which compares to 97 percent this time last year, with the 5-year average being 97 percent. Bolls opening is 18 percent, which compares to 19 percent this time last year, with the 5-year average is 16 percent. Peanuts dug are at 6 percent, which compares to 13 percent last year, and 6 percent is the 5-year average. Peanuts harvested are 1 percent, which compares to 3 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 2 percent. 

In Georgia, cotton setting bolls is 92 percent, which compares to 93 percent this time last year, with the 5-year average being 94 percent. Bolls opening is 16 percent, which compares to 13 percent this time last year, with the 5-year average is 18 percent. Peanut conditions are at 8 percent excellent, 54 percent good, 30 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor.
