Registration remains open for the Georgia Cotton Commission’s (GCC) mid-year meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 at the Nesmith-Lane Conference Center in Statesboro, Georgia.

Taylor Sills, executive director of the Georgia Cotton Commission, outlined this year’s second annual meeting, which will highlight timely topics impacting the state’s cotton producers.

“July 24, we’re going to have our second annual Georgia Cotton Commission mid-year meeting. We’ve put together what we think is a really good program,” Sills said. “There will be commission updates. We’re in the middle of talking about a farm bill, so Robbie Minnich, vice president of Washington Operations for the National Cotton Council, is going to come. Producers are hearing a lot about demand and all the problems facing the cotton industry as it relates to demand; a lot of which are economic related. Daniel Radford, Southeast Regional Communications Manager for the Cotton Board, is going to join us and talk about what the cotton research and promotion program and Cotton Incorporated are doing to take on this demand issue.”

Stanley Culpepper, University of Georgia (UGA) Cooperative Extension weed specialist, one of multiple presenters from the UGA Cotton Team, will focus on the importance of pesticide stewardship and EPA regulations.

Charlie Killmaster, deer management assistant program supervisor for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, will also discuss the implementation of the state’s deer management plan and how farmer input has made an impact.

“I think we’ve got a really good program put together,” Sills said.
