The Georgia Cotton Commission (GCC) reminds producers and industry leaders that its mid-year meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 26, at the Nesmith-Lane Conference Center in Statesboro.

Taylor Sills, executive director of the Georgia Cotton Commission (GCC), highlighted what attendees can expect to learn about at next week’s meeting.

“We’ve got a really good program put together,” Sills said. “We’ve got a whole host of our normal Extension speakers who are going to talk about the unique position that our crop is in 2023. Registration, you can come the day of, but we’d obviously prefer that you register beforehand. You can go to our website. It’s one of the first things that you see on the site.

“We’re really excited about this new program. We had a lot of buy-in from the industry through sponsors. There’s a lot of support for this, and we hope that our growers will turn up in high numbers.”

The meeting is held in conjunction with the University of Georgia (UGA) Cotton Pre-Harvest Workshop conducted by members of the UGA Cotton Team.

Among the event’s other featured speakers include Bart Fischer, co-director of the Agriculture and Food Policy Center at Texas A&M University; and Hank Reichle, president and CEO of Staplcotn. The quality awards will also be presented for the 2022 crop. The meeting will start at 8 a.m., and registration is free.
