The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued their final 2022 crop progress report for peanuts. While most of that harvest has ended, USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey notes there are a few areas where harvesters are still in the fields. He runs through the latest on both the cotton and peanut harvests, starting with cotton.
And Rippey looks at what the USDA report says about the peanut harvest as of this past Sunday.
In Alabama, cotton harvested is 91 percent, which compares to 84 percent last year and the 5-year average is also 84 percent. Peanuts harvested are at 99 percent, which compares to 97 percent last year, while the 5-year average is 96 percent.
In Florida, cotton harvested is 78 percent, which compares to 72 percent last year and the 5-year average is 69 percent. Peanuts harvest is basically over in most areas.
In Georgia, cotton harvested is 86 percent, which compares to 75 percent last year and the 5-year average is 79 percent. Peanuts harvested are at 98 percent, which compares to 97 percent last year, while the 5-year average is also 97 percent.
