Back in January of 2020, we talked about how many in agriculture were pleased with the signing of the first phase of the China trade deal. Those in the beef industry were hoping the trade deal would bring a significant boost in U.S. beef exports to China.

Last month, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a report highlighting the progress made to date in implementing the agricultural provisions in that agreement. And when it comes to beef, the report noted U.S. beef and beef products exports to China through August 2020 are already more than triple the total for 2017.

But what cuts of beef U.S. beef are most popular in China? That’s is a question Southeast AgNet’s Randall Weiseman asked U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Senior Vice President for the Asia Pacific, Joel Haggard.

Efforts continue to work closely with the Chinese government to ensure that the Phase One Agreement is fully and properly implemented, so that access for U.S. food and agricultural products into the Chinese market can continue to expand moving forward.
