Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and the Florida Forest Service announced today the Phase One re-opening of Florida State Forest campgrounds, campsites, and recreation areas. The Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), manages more than 1 million acres of state forests and provides forest management assistance on more than 17 million acres of private and community forests.

Starting May 8, the first phase reopening includes most campgrounds, primitive campsites and trailheads in state forests with limited capacity. But restrooms will remain closed, except at open campgrounds, and some recreation and day-use areas will remain closed.

As Florida State Forest recreation areas re-open, officials urge the public to continue following CDC guidelines. For a complete list of open and closed areas, visit FDACS.gov/FLStateForests.
