It is just about time to break out the gardening tools for the Spring garden. Cathy Isom gives you some ways to get free plants for your garden. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Having a garden can cost a lot of money. But it doesn’t have to. There are plenty of ways to still have a marvelous garden on a tight budget. You just need to know where to find free plants to make the most of your money.
The best place to start is asking a friend. Chances are they might have started too many seedlings, or they’ll have plants that need to be divided.
Remember to save your seeds from the previous gardening season. Or, join a seed swap group where you send someone seeds they want, and they send you the seeds you want, all for about the cost of postage.
Check social media. There’s always someone giving away freebies, including plants, and other gardening accessories.
Sometimes checking the clearance racks at your local nursery or garden store will turn up a hidden treasure trove. Or, some stores might be tossing out dried up plants and will offer them for free.
You can always forage from a friend or neighbor who has acres of land containing plants you can nab for free.
Take a stroll through your local forest or wilderness. You can take plant cuttings from wild berries, divide some wild ramps, or gather up tree starts.
