Cotton and Peanut Harvest Progress

Harvest has been progressing well in many areas across the Southeast. U.S. Department of Agriculture meteorologist Brad Rippey has the latest on the cotton harvest.

When it comes to peanuts, Rippey notes with the exception of one state, harvest is moving along ahead of normal.

In Alabama, 71 percent of the cotton crop has been harvested, which compares to 64 percent this time last year. Ninety-five percent of the peanuts had been dug, which compares to 91 percent this time last year. Ninety percent have already been harvested, which compares to only 77 percent last year.

In Florida, 92 percent of the cotton bolls were open, which compares to 99 percent last year at this time. Forty-one percent of the crop has been harvested, compared to only 21 percent last year. Ninety-seven percent have been harvested, which compares to 89 percent this time last year.

In Georgia, 67 percent of the crop has been harvested, compared to 51 percent last year. Ninety-five percent of the peanuts have been dug, which compares to 91 percent this time last year. Eighty-nine percent have been harvested, which compares to 80 percent this time last year.
