As harvest continues across the cotton belt, USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says cotton crop progress is slightly ahead of schedule.
And Rippey has the last peanut crop condition report of the season.
In Alabama, 95 percent of the cotton bolls were open, which compares to 90 percent last year at this time. 36 percent of the cotton crop has been harvested, which compares to 27 percent this time last year. 84 percent of the peanuts had been dug, which compares to only 61 percent this time last year. 70 percent have already been harvested, which compares to only 43 percent last year.
In Florida, only 76 percent of the cotton bolls were open, which compares to 92 percent last year at this time. 21 percent of the crop has been harvested, comparing to only 5 percent last year. 84 percent of the peanuts had been dug, which compares to 82 percent this time last year. 71 percent have been harvested, which compares to 67 percent this time last year.
In Georgia, 95 percent of the cotton bolls were open, which compares to 91 percent last year at this time. 40 percent of the crop has been harvested, comparing to 19 percent last year. 76 percent of the peanuts have been dug, which compares to 65 percent this time last year. 60 percent have been harvested, which compares to 49 percent this time last year.
