Harvest Underway for Cotton and Peanut Crops

In the latest crop conditions report, U.S. Department of Agriculture meteorologist Brad Rippey says harvest of the nation’s cotton crop is underway.

Rippey says the harvest of the nation’s peanut crop is ahead of schedule.

In Alabama, 81 percent of the bolls were open, which compares to 76 percent last year at this time. Four percent of the cotton crop has been harvested. Thirty percent of the peanuts have been dug, which compares to only 17 percent this time last year, while 15 percent have already been harvested.

In Florida, 62 percent of the bolls were open, which compares to 57 percent last year at this time. Two percent of the crop has been harvested. Fifty-four percent of the peanuts had been dug, which compares to 42 percent this time last year, while 37 percent have already been harvested.

In Georgia, 81 percent of the bolls were open, which compares to only 67 percent last year at this time. Ten percent of the crop has been harvested. Twenty-eight percent of the peanuts have been dug, which compares to 20 percent this time last year, while 14 percent have already been harvested.
