USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey has the latest look at the nation’s cotton crop.
When it comes to the peanut crop, Rippey notes they are one crop developing ahead of schedule.
In Alabama, 64 percent of the cotton is squaring, that compares to only 43 percent this time last year. 5 percent is setting bolls. 53 percent of the peanut crop is pegging, which compares to only 39 percent last year at this time.
In Florida, 51 percent of the cotton is squaring, comparing to only 31 percent this time last year. 9 percent is setting bolls. 54 percent of the peanut crop is pegging, which compares to only 32 percent last year at this time.
In Georgia, 58 percent of the cotton is squaring, that compares to 56 percent this time last year. 12 percent is setting bolls. 61 percent of the peanut crop is pegging, which compares to 58 percent last year at this time.
