Cathy Isom tells you about some brilliant vegetable garden layout ideas for beginning gardener. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Growing vegetables at home can be done if you’ve never done it before, if you don’t have a traditional garden bed and you’re short on space.
The best space-saving gardens can be done with raised garden beds, vertical gardens, and container gardens. Square foot gardening is another easy option for beginners.
If you don’t have room for more than one 4×4 raised garden bed, this is the vegetable garden layout for you. Veggies are placed to reduce overlap, allowing each plant to grow strong.
To begin square foot gardening, prepare a raised garden box. Instead of planting the vegetables in traditional rows, however, plant each veggie type in the individual squares. These are made to separate planting zones and use the space more efficiently.
Gardens can also be created in window boxes, containers on shelves on a wall, in old furniture, or by using recycled plastic bottles.
