Everett Griner talks about who loses in a trade war in today’s Agri View.
Trade War Damage
Trade war — it has been going on for almost half a year now, and nobody has any notion of when it will end. Unlike a real war where many people are hurt, trade war hurts everybody, especially the producer.
Look at this: two-thirds of America’s farm income is from exports. Listen to this: two-thirds of our cotton, half of our soybeans, and almost half of our wheat crop, just to give you an idea. It’s not just our field crops; it affects pork, beef and poultry.
What this country needs is opening new markets, not closing any. You can’t help but feel sorry for farmers who produce these crops. But what about the people who buy the crops? Finally, how many jobs will be affected? And how will it change when it is over?
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
