Agriculture Candidates Set to Debate

The two candidates vying to become Florida next agriculture commissioner — state Rep. Matt Caldwell, a Republican from North Fort Myers, and Fort Lauderdale Democrat Nikki Fried — have agreed to an early Sunday morning debate next month.

Caldwell and Fried are seeking to replace term-limited Adam Putnam in the Cabinet position that oversees the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

They’re set to appear together Oct. 21 on the CBS Miami show “Facing South Florida.” The weekly program is hosted by investigative reporter Jim DeFede.The 30-minute show airs at 8 a.m., and the debate is scheduled to be live-streamed by the station on its webpage and its Facebook page.
