Everett Griner talks about one of the most consumed foods in the world, the 2018-19 rice crop outlook, in today’s Agri View.

Rice Outlook Looks Good

You know, you don’t hear so much about rice because it is one of the smallest crops grown in the United States. If you look at other countries, and world consumption, you can see that rice is one of the most important crops grown. Look where it is grown in other countries. India, China, Brazil, Thailand, and Bangladesh, to name a few. The 2018-19 crop in Bangladesh alone is forecast at 500 thousand hectares. In U.S. terms, that is over a million acres.

Most of these countries export a lot of their crop. Rice is one of the most consumed foods grown anywhere. All but the smaller countries export most of their rice. Even they export some. The United States will export much of its crop.

Well, all in all 2019 looks like a good year for rice and rice farmers.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
