Continuing to celebrate food month, Cathy Isom has her eyes on a big juicy, delicious meal. She has some great ways of celebrating the mainstay of backyard barbecues and the cash cow of fast food restaurants. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Celebrating National Hamburger Month
The month of May celebrates many foods and food holidays, in particular the kind that you want to showcase at your next backyard barbecue.
May is also hamburger month. Hamburger actually started out as “garbage meat”. Waste that was produced in the process of cutting more desirable steak cuts. From there it went on through largely unrecorded channels to become the most popular part of the backyard meal, the hamburger. It can now be found in thousands of different locations with variations that range from the amazing to the simply bizarre.
While the whole month of May celebrates this tasty meat, there is also one day this month dedicated totally to the burger. Monday, May 28th. Conveniently, this day also falls on the first unofficial weekend of summer, Memorial weekend. One of the most popular weekends for firing up the grill, and, with burgers.
