Everett Griner talks about the trade war and red meat exports in today’s Agri View. Everett goes on to explain what the impact this will have on the farmer and on the consumer.
Trade War and Red Meat Exports
Here is why farmers and all of agriculture are so concerned about a trade war.
Looking at export figures up to the beginning of this year, there are some pretty stunning numbers to live up to. Especially in red meat, pork. The February figures stood at 205 thousand tons. It surprises me that we exported more pork than we did beef. Beef exports stood at 100 thousand tons.
These numbers don’t mean a lot unless you put a dollar value on them. $547 million dollars worth of pork and $599 million dollars worth of beef. So, you can see what the result of a trade war with anybody would do to the farm families that strive to produce our red meat animals.
In the long run, it also means that you will pay more when you buy it.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
