Everett Griner talks about what the threat of a trade war has done to farmers in today’s Agri View. Everett looks at how the talk about a trade war has affected producers and who loses if one happens.
Who Loses in a Trade War?
Trade war, or no trade war. Look what the thereat has already done to farmers. Using statistics from Iowa. It cost an Iowa farmer $120 dollars to raise a hog to market weight. When that trade war talk began to circulate, the cost fell to $100 dollars.
Or soybeans. The price fluctuates. One Iowa farmer producers 100,000 bushels year. One out of every three of those bushels goes to China. Now you do the multiplication. We grow soybeans in a lot of states. We produce hogs in a number of states.
A trade war would affect every grower and every farmer who produces. Now, the other products that would be affected. Anybody can see it would cost the rest of us just as much to keep agriculture going. Especially when you add the other products.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
