Cathy Isom tells us why we are celebrating the leafy green vegetable that packs quite the nutritional punch. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Celebrating National Spinach Day
Spinach is a versatile green veggie that can be eaten raw or cooked. It is available fresh, frozen or canned. Today, you may want to add Spinach to one of your meals to celebrate National Spinach Day.
Not only are there so many delicious ways that you can enjoy spinach, but it is also incredibly good for you! Spinach is one of the best sources of iron, as well as calcium, folic aid, fiber, protein, and vitamins A, C, and K. Spinach is also loaded with cancer-fighting antioxidants. It is also believed to help improve cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health.
Thinking of growing your own spinach? Sow spinach seed as early as six weeks before the last frost or as soon as you can work the soil.
Add some spinach to a salad or on pizza, in a sandwich or a delicious dip. You can also enjoy some creamed spinach or add spinach to lasagna.
Make sure to use #NationalSpinachDay to post on social media.
