Cathy Isom has a few great tips for you about how to get started on your year-round harvest with the seeds and plants you’ll want to sow right now. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Starting Your Year Round Garden
By now, many of us have started planning and prepping for Spring and Summer gardens. But why stop at just these two seasons when your home food production can continue all year long? It’s all about knowing what to grow in your area at the right time. Because different crops do better at different times of year.
Start by establishing some perennial crops that will provide food automatically in early spring. Asparagus and artichokes, for example. Then, in the Spring is when you’ll want to sow all of your annual vegetables: celery, dill, kale, spinach and lettuces. Start these indoors right now, or roughly six to ten weeks before the last frost. Also before the last frost get these root veggies in the ground: onions, carrots, beets, potatoes and radishes.
