While overall cotton harvest numbers are ahead of last year and close to the 5-year average, harvest here in the Southeast is trailing a bit. Stephanie Ho has the story.
Cotton Harvest Ahead of Last Year
According to USDA’s weekly crop progress report, 79 percent of the Alabama cotton crop had been harvested as of this past Sunday, November 26, up from 73 percent the week before. But 93 percent of the crop had been harvested at this time last year, while the 5-year average is 90 percent. In Georgia, 84 percent of the cotton crop has been harvested, up from 78 percent the week before. But 92 percent of the crop had been harvested at this time last year, while the 5-year average is 81 percent. In Florida, 75 percent of the cotton crop has been harvested as of this past Sunday, which is up from 57 percent the week before.
