Thanksgiving Turkey Mistakes

Some of the most common mistakes are made on Thanksgiving Day. Some you may not realize you’re making!

For example, waiting too long to buy your turkey. Or not realizing the turkey your purchased is already brined. Or leaving that frozen bird on the counter to thaw.

Not only is it a waste of time, but leaving raw turkey at room temperature can also pose a health risk. This Thanksgiving, be safe and go straight from fridge to oven.

You may also have been told to never pat the turkey dry. Yes, you can. In fact, use paper towels to give it a quick pat before it goes in the oven. The skin will come out nice and crispy.

Another mistake, not using a roasting rack. Elevate that bird to help the heat get all the way around it.

Another common mistake is opening up that oven and basting. It’s really not necessary to baste at all. And every time you open the oven door, you’re letting too much heat out and significantly slowing down the cooking process.

And, lastly, when it’s done and time to come out of the oven, give it a good 20-30 minutes of rest before you carve it.
