National Peach Month

Dan Fruits, This Land of Ours

national peach monthCathy Isom tells us about a month-long celebration for one of the greatest tasting fruits. That’s coming up on “This Land of Ours.”

August is National Peach Month. Eat them right off the tree, sliced in cream, make peach cobbler with ice cream or you can even blend them in delicious smoothies or slushies. It doesn’t matter how you eat them just as long as during this month you celebrate National Peach Month by eating them in as many ways as you can think of.

California puts out about 50 percent of this country’s peaches. Worldwide, China is the number-one producer of peaches in the world, followed by Italy.

Peaches are high in vitamins A, B and C. Peach pits contain hydrocyanic acid. It is poisonous.

Back in 1982, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed August as “Peach Month” and called upon the people of the United States to incorporate this nutritious fruit into their diets. President Reagan also called upon interested groups to celebrate this month with appropriate programs and activities.

Make sure to have peaches for August. Make your favorite recipe, and share it on social media using #NationalPeachMonth.
