Agri View: Animal Antibiotic Use

Dan Agri View, Cattle, Livestock

animal antibioticEverett Griner talks about animal antibiotic use. The issue is whether to use or not to use antibiotics on animals in today’s Agri View.

Now, this thing about antibiotics has a lot of people confused. Farmers are forbidden to use antibiotics in animal production in a lot of cases. Consumers simply will not buy meat from animals that have been treated with antibiotics. So, what is a farmer going to do when his animals face those problems? Animals do get sick you know. Now, when a child gets sick, what parent would withhold antibiotic treatment in their recovery? Poultry farmers especially have a problem with antibiotics. Because commercial consumers will not buy chickens where antibiotics have been used. And so, I guess it is alright to use antibiotics for cattle, hogs, and other large animals. But not for chickens. It is a problem, so far, that does not have a solution.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
